Connect MySQL and MariaDB to Claude
At beta launchShop database, CRM or your own application: ask your MySQL or MariaDB database questions in plain language – without writing SQL yourself.
Your address for Claudehttps://mysql-acme.xenmcp.com/mcp
Many web shops, WordPress sites and industry solutions keep their data in MySQL or MariaDB. With XenMCP you connect that database to Claude: Claude writes the query, the MCP server runs it read-only, and you get the answer in plain words or as a table.
The server runs at XenMCP in Germany in its own isolated sandbox. You open your database only to XenMCP’s fixed IP address.
What you can ask Claude
- How many orders did the shop get yesterday, and what was the average basket?
- Which products have not sold in the last 30 days?
- Show me the tables in the database and what is in them.
- Which customers have more than three returns?
- Why does this query take so long? Which index is missing?
Typical tools
execute_sql- Run SQL – in read-only mode only SELECT, SHOW, DESCRIBE and EXPLAIN
search_objects- Find tables, columns and indexes
explain_sql- Show the execution plan
health_check- Check the state of the database
Write statements- INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE (only when you allow it, blocked by default)
What you need to connect
- Connection details: host, port (usually 3306), database
- A dedicated user with only
SELECTrights on the tables needed - XenMCP’s fixed IP address allowed (firewall and the user’s host part, e.g.
'claude'@'<IP>') - A TLS connection if your server offers one
Security
- Read-only by default, plus a user with only
SELECTrights: two independent barriers. - A time limit for reading queries (on MySQL via
max_execution_time) and a row limit per query. - Port 3306 does not need to be open to everyone – only to XenMCP’s fixed IP.
- Credentials encrypted (AES-256-GCM), never logged; the call log keeps only tool, status and duration.
- Its own isolated sandbox (gVisor) per server, with no access to other customers.
Good to know
It is based on DBHub by Bytebase (MIT), the same server as for PostgreSQL. It supports MySQL and MariaDB alike.
Built on
We use the open server DBHub (Bytebase) (MIT), build the image ourselves from a pinned version and review the tool descriptions before release.
Frequently asked questions
Does it work with my WordPress or shop database?
Yes, if XenMCP can reach the database. Many hosting providers block outside access to the database; then the provider has to allow XenMCP’s IP or offer external access.
Can Claude break something?
Not by default: the server only allows reading statements. With a user that may only SELECT, writing is ruled out at the database level as well.
Is personal data a problem?
Give the user access only to the tables or views Claude really needs. Results go to the AI client you connect – for Claude, that is Anthropic.
