Connect Nextcloud to Claude

Many companies in Germany keep their files, calendars and contacts in their own Nextcloud. With an MCP server, Claude can access them – with exactly the rights of the user who connects.

XenMCP runs the MCP server for you. Your Nextcloud stays where it is; XenMCP does not host it. The connection uses an app password that you can revoke in Nextcloud at any time.

What you need to connect

The address of your Nextcloud (e.g. https://cloud.your-company.com)
An app password of the user (Settings → Security → Devices & sessions)
Optional: which areas Claude may use (files, calendar, contacts)

Security

Claude sees only what the connected user may see in Nextcloud. The app password can be revoked in Nextcloud at any time.
Read-only by default; creating appointments and changing files only if you allow it, and the AI client asks before every call.
File contents are data for the AI, not instructions. Still, a file from outside can try to influence the AI – which is why writing needs confirmation.
App password encrypted (AES-256-GCM), never logged; the call log keeps only tool, status and duration.

Good to know

Nextcloud itself offers its own AI solution inside Nextcloud, the Context Agent. XenMCP is for you if you want to use your Nextcloud with Claude or other external AI clients without running additional services in your Nextcloud.

We use the open server Nextcloud MCP Server (cbcoutinho) (AGPL-3.0), build the image ourselves from a pinned version and review the tool descriptions before release.

Frequently asked questions

Does XenMCP host my Nextcloud?

No. Your Nextcloud stays with you or your provider. XenMCP only runs the MCP server that connects to it.

Do I need my normal password?

No. You create a separate app password in Nextcloud. It can be revoked individually at any time.

Can every employee connect their own Nextcloud account?

That is the goal: everyone connects with their own account and sees only their own files and appointments. We will settle the details for launch.

When will Nextcloud be available?
